Irene’s SS Bremen Souvenir

Irene kept many little mementos.. This particular one is from a cruise. This scan is the front and back image of the beautiful menu from the evening of February 11th of 1931. Irene’s name (Irene Jones) is printed on the left side of the menu and the evening’s courses are on the right. Oh, and what a dinner this was! Malosso Caviare (Russian Caviar) Green Turtle Soup Brook Trout Meuniere Asparagus Hollandaise Roast Pheasant Mashed Apples Current Jelly Fruit, Cheese Demitasse I researched info about the Bremen ocean liner and included this photo of the ship that I downloaded from it’s Wikipedia page. Irene in Ohio Textile Exhibit

When you get the chance, stop over and take a look at this.  It’s fabulous! There is a Mini Irene Exhibit Included in the “Text and Textiles Exhibition” at The Ohio State University Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, Columbus Ohio, October 24th-December 5, 2009. Objects in the exhibition are related to projects by scholars who have used the Ohio State University Historic Costume and Textiles Collection for primary research materials.  The first chapter of Tom Gates’ unpublished manuscript about Irene is displayed along with several garments from Irene, Inc. dating from the 1950s.  One of them is a tailored yellow-suit in one of Irene’s favorite colors....
