A Typical Day with Irene
This is a photo from my personal collection. On the back of the original photo is a typed message that reads..
A TYPICAL DAY WITH IRENE, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s talented executive designer, is proof that her work has just begun when she completed a sketch for some star. Each drawing means hour upon hour of discussion, plans, and changes before it finally is seen on the screen.
Irene begins her day by discussing sketches she has prepared for the forthcoming picture with one of her associate designers. They go over such things as style, fabric, color and the suitability of the costume to a particular star.
Irene is my grand-aunt, and admired for her work in women's fashion and Hollywood costume design. Her talent as a successful clothing designer in Los Angeles led to her long career as a costume designer for many great films in Hollywood.. until her sudden death in 1962. I hope you enjoy your visit.. ~ Karlyn
Thank you so much for creating this website, Karlyn. I hope you can add more to it as more people learn about it and share information and photos with you. I have always been fascinated by your great Aunt. I actually stumbled upon your website b/c I was doing some research on Edwin B. Willis (set decorator). I look forward to the books coming out on Irene!
