I have scanned several old Newspaper pages and clippings that Irene kept. This is one of the earliest ones. Though there’s no photo of Irene on the page, the author – (Ogden, I believe) – mentions Irene as “one of the new girls” on the scene and a “potential Gloria Swanson”. He goes on to say how Irene cares for her two brothers (my grandfather and grand-uncle) and that she won a Los Angeles Beauty Contest a couple of years prior to her start as an actress. I do not know the date of this article unfortunately, but I’m guessing it was around 1920.

Many thanks to Steve Rydzewski for sharing this with us!
A scene from Ben Turpin’s classic Mack Sennett comedy, “The Dare-Devil,” released in November 1923. That’s Irene in the black wig, Jack Richardson on the couch, and an unknown player in the beard.

A still photograph from the silent film, The Daredevil, shows Ben Turpin with a horse and a film player who looks rather like Irene, although this is debatable. Irene did play a role with the cross-eyed comedian known for his crazy screen antics. The year of the film was 1923, but apparently this scene was not in the film. Irene was much taller than Turpin, who was rather short and goofy looking, but he was still surrounded by female beauties such as Irene, who started out as a bit player when she and her mother and brothers moved to Hollywood from Baker, MT. Frank and Kline were her brothers and Kline is Karlyn’s great grandad and of course, her mom’s dad.
