Irene building her Malibu beach home
I would like to see what this home looks like today..
My mother remembers staying here for mini-vacations. Unfortunately, she recalls that she could never sleep well because the waves were so noisy. I love the sound of the ocean. Apparently Irene did too. She loved the beach and had always wanted a beach home.
Hope you enjoyed the photos.
Clicking on them will show you a larger view by the way.
Have a great day!

Irene is my grand-aunt, and admired for her work in women's fashion and Hollywood costume design. Her talent as a successful clothing designer in Los Angeles led to her long career as a costume designer for many great films in Hollywood.. until her sudden death in 1962. I hope you enjoy your visit.. ~ Karlyn
Great photos Karlyn! I can imagine the excitement and anticipation of having their house finished and ready for their leisure and fun. How great too to see the much different Southern California beach. Thanks for sharing these personal family photos.
These are terrific photos. Something tells me from the tide coming in on the second picture, that it wasn’t long before the house was raised. hehe.
We lived in Simi Valley a few years ago and ventured down to Malibu often. Christian is right – It is a much different Southern California now, with wall-to-wall beach houses and a steady stream of traffic.
How tranquil the beach house must have been. I love her sundress too. It’s neat to see her outside of work.
Can’t you just picture her walking barefoot on the beach with an ocean breeze? She looks serene.
